Warren Buffett jumped ahead one spot in the rankings and is now the 3rd richest person in the world. He unseated Zara billionaire Amancio Ortega to take the spot.
As of the end of the trading day on Monday, Warren Buffett had a net worth of $54.9 billion.
Ortega was very close. As of Monday, his net worth was $54.5 billion. He’s now trailing Buffett by $400 million.
Both of these gentleman have been neck and neck over the last few weeks. Each of their largest holdings moved with Monday’s trading.
Berkshire rose in value by 0.03%, and Inditex dropped in value by 0.15% on the exchange in Madrid.
Even though the shifts are tiny, if you look at the concentrated holding of both billionaires and combine that with the dollar to euro exchange rate, they are big enough changes for the Forbes positions to flip flop.
By Monday’s close, Ortega had lost $2.5 billion in net worth by the time the 2013 Forbes Billionaires List numbers were finalized.
This was published on March 4 of this year, but the figures were based on the stock prices of February 14, 2013.
By contrast, Warren Buffett was up $1.4 billion.
