Warren Buffett Email to Congress

Warren Buffett’s email outlines the following: the salary of a U.S. president is $180,000, a lifetime. The salary of members of the House and Senate is $174,000 for life. The salary of the Speaker of the House is $223,000 for life. The salary of the Senate Majority/Minority Leaders is $193,400 for life. A teacher’s average salary is $40,065. The average salary of a soldier who gets deployed is stated as being $38,000. Buffett’s solution to the problem is that if the deficit gets to be more than 3% of GDP, every Congressional leader is eligible for re-election.

The 26th Amendment was ratified in 1971 to give adults aged 18 the right to vote which took only three months to be passed all because of public pressure in an era before the widespread use of computers. Buffett wanted 20 people to forward this email he sent to Congress. The Congressional Reform Act of 2017 featured the following new rules: 1. No tenure or pension if the Congressperson is out of office. 2. Congress consistently participates in social security. 3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan. 4. Congress cannot give a pay raise to itself, and pay will only rise by lower Consumer Price Index or maybe 3%. 5. Congress has to give up their great health care to use the system most Americans have that causes them immense debt. 7. All contracts with past and present Congresspeople are void, on 3/1/2017, was another aspect of this law. The American people didn’t make this contract. Congress should be an honor to serve in, not a career. If you agree with this method of fixing Congress, the email asks to send it out. If Congress were ever to pass a law like this, it would mean they might lose their jobs.
