Berkshire Hathaway Inc., headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, a multinational holding company is owned by Buffett and is the source of his wealth. Buffett is well known for his charitable donations.
As a philanthropist, Buffet donations are to issues related to nuclear threats, community services, children, education, health and economic development. He does not control his philanthropic donations and trusts the organizations will use the money appropriately.
Warren Buffett has had a positive relationship with money all his life. At the age of eleven, he bought farmland in his home state, Nebraska, by saving money from his paper route and invested in stock. When he was fifteen years old, he purchased a pinball machine and put it in a barbershop, and had raised $6,000.
Warren Buffet and Bill Gates enjoy a billionaire relationship. They met in 1991 and friends, investors and made remarkable donations to charities. In 2017, Buffet has donated more than $4 billion to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation which adds up to the $21.9 billion he has made to the Gates Foundation since 2006.
Further, since 2006, he has made $27.54 billion in donations since 2006, to five charities, including roughly $21.9 billion to the Gates Foundation. His goal to divest himself of 99% of his wealth of that amount he has committed over 80% of his donations to the Gates Foundation. His ownership of Berkshire Hathaway has made his contributions possible.
Buffett donates to the Glide Foundation, which is the Methodist Church’s charitable foundation located in San Fransico. This foundation supports immigration causes, including DACA, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. Glide also provides shelter, rehabilitation, free meals, drug abuse prevention and health services.
