The most successful investor in the world continues to stay young by drinking at least five Coca-Cola’s a day. And it turns out that the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway says his bizarre diet is quite strategic.
How does the top investor in the world, at 84 years old, get up in the morning and face the day with massive amounts of energy?
Buffett says, “I’m one quarter Coca-Cola.”
When mentioning this in a recent phone call, Buffett explained, “If I eat 2700 calories a day, a quarter of that is Coca-Cola. I drink at least five 12 ounce servings. I do it every day.”
You have to believe that only a person that owns $16 billion worth of Coca-Cola stock (which is 9% of the company) through Berkshire Hathaway, would even contemplate maintaining such a strange diet. A 12 ounce can of Coca-Cola has 140 calories. Buffett typically says, “I have three Cokes during the day and two at night.”
At the Berkshire Hathaway office in Omaha, when Buffett is at his desk he only drinks regular Coke. But when he’s at home he will treat himself to Cherry Coke.
“I’ll have one at breakfast,” explains Buffett, saying that he really loves to drink Coca-Cola with his potato sticks. And his favorite brand of potato sticks? “I have a can right here,” says Buffett. “U-T-Z” Utz brand potato sticks come from the snack maker of the same name based out of Hanover, Pennsylvania. Buffett even said that he has talked to management at Utz about potentially purchasing the company.
To the relief of Berkshire Hathaway investors, many are excited that the CEO is not eating potato sticks at every one of his breakfasts, maybe. “This morning, I had a bowl of chocolate chip ice cream,” says Buffett.
When asked to explain the high salt and high sugar diet that Buffett maintains and still manages to stay healthy, he replies: “I checked the actuarial tables, and the lowest death rate is among six-year-olds. So I decided to eat like a six-year-old.” The octogenarian then added, “It’s the safest course I can take.”
