Buffett Gives Nebraska Democrat $100k Donation

When Warren Buffett speaks, people listen. And this year, the Oracle of Omaha wants the next Nebraska governor to be Chuck Hassebrook.

Buffett made a donation to Hassebrook’s campaign in the amount of $100,000, and the Associated Press says that this donation is potentially the largest that Buffett has ever made to a single campaign. The donation made its way into the public when Hassebrook had to file on Tuesday with the Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Commission.

As a former regent for the University of Nebraska, Hassebrook is running up against Pete Ricketts, Republican, in November. Joe Ricketts, founder of TD Ameritrade, is the father of Pete Ricketts. His family also owns the Chicago Cubs. Due to term limits, current Republican governor Dave Heineman is not allowed to run.

Primarily, Warren Buffett is known to make donations to Democratic candidates, and this information is based on campaign finance records that are kept by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics. The Oracle of Omaha has also donated to such prominent politicians including Bob Kerrey, Tom Daschle, Hillary Rodham Clinton and Pres. Obama on the Democratic side. He’s also donated to former Congressman Chris Shays, John McCain and Tom Osborne. Osborne is actually the former coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
