LiquidPower Specialty Products (LSPI) produces chemical agents to help pipelines reach maximum efficiency by reducing turbulence in the liquid flowing through the pipeline. The company’s products are used on six continents and work in pipelines that span thousands of miles.
This company is a pioneer in its field and was the first to offer a commercial drag reducing agent (DRA) in 1979. Since that time, the company has continued to innovate and improve its patented technology to provide the best possible products. It is also the first and only producer in the world of DRA for heavy oil.
LSPI offers three primary products: LiquidPower, ExtremePower, and RefinedPower. All three can be used in a variety of pipelines to help reduce drag, turbulence, and pressure as well as increase flow through commercial pipelines. LSPI’s products are available in 35 different countries.
Conoco Inc patented the world’s first commercial drag reducing agent (DRA) in 1973 and created a subsidiary company which handled the production and research into the DRA. The first commercial gel DRA was produced in 1979.
The subsidiary company continued to research and introduced new and improved DRAs in 1994, 1997, and again in 2002 shortly after the ConocoPhilips merger. The very first DRA for heavy oil was introduced to the product line in 2008.
In 2014, Berkshire Hathaway acquired the company, which was then called ConocoPhilips Specialty Products. It renamed the corporation Lubrizol Specialty Products, Inc (LSPI).
The company changed its name again in 2017 to LiquidPower Specialty Products (a Berkshire Hathaway Company), and has continued to innovate and research more effective methods for reducing drag in commercial pipelines.
