Brief History

Justin Boots was founded in 1879 by H.J. Justin, a boot repairman from Lafayette, Indiana. The business, which he ran out of his home, made cowboy boots for wranglers. The customers were measured on their first way through and then the finished boots were picked up on the way back. Each pair was lovingly handmade and extremely durable.

The company became a family business in 1908 when H.J.’s sons John and Earl decided to work for their father. The business was renamed to H.J. Justin and Sons and by 1910, its boots were sold in 26 states as well as Mexico, Canada, and Cuba. The shoes were sold for $11 a pair.

When H.J. died in 1918, his sons took over the company, relocating it to Fort Worth. Business continued to do well, and in 1968 H.J Justin & Sons formed a deal with Acme Brick to create Justin Industries.

In the 80s, the company continued to expand by acquiring outside shoemakers including Nocona Boot Company and Chippewa Shoe Company. Tony Lama Boots, a longtime competitor, was purchased in 1990.

The company joined Berkshire Hathaway in 2000. Since that time, the Justin Brand has continued to grow in fame and reputation for creating the world’s highest quality cowboy and work boots.
