Brief History

Jordan’s Furniture was started in 1918 when Samuel Tatelman began selling furniture out of the back of a truck. In 1926, he earned enough money to open a storefront and in the late 1930s, his son joined the company and helped it expand.

The company was a fairly standard furniture company when it was established, but when the Tatelman brothers, Barry and Eliot, took over the business in 1973, they expanded and began more aggressive radio advertisements. The company launched its first ‘shoppertainment’ store in the 80s, and since that time the company has continued to expand and grow into not only a furniture store, but a destination.

Joradn’s furniture was purchased by Berkshire Hathaway in 1999 as a way to help maintain financial security to launch bigger and better things. The Tatleman brothers stayed on with the company, which went on to open its first IMAX 3D theater inside its Natick store in 2002.
