Part of Berkshire Hathaway Energy, HomeServices of America is the second largest residential brokerage firm in the country. It offers a variety of different services, but focuses on maintaining a local presence to best serve its customers.

HomeServices of America is a national company which operates in 28 states across the country and employs more than 26,000 people. It has a variety of subsidiary companies and franchises, and it is constantly acquiring new businesses to improve its services and reach.

HomeServices of America offers a variety of services through its subsidiaries including brokerage services; mortgage and lending services; real estate brokerage franchising; title, escrow, and closing services; relocation services; and other related services including home, auto, flood, and other types of insurance.

Brief History

HomeServices of America was founded as a real estate brokerage firm in 1998 as a part of MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company. The company was originally based in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was focused primarily on simplifying the process of buying and selling a home.

Berkshire Hathaway completed a deal to acquire MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company and all of its affiliates, including HomeServices of America, only a year after HomeServices of America was founded.

As a Berkshire Hathaway company, HomeServices of America has expanded and grown into the second largest real estate brokerage firm in the country. It is currently the majority owner of the Real Living Real Estate, Prudential Real Estate, and Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices franchise networks, and is constantly expanding its portfolio and list of companies.
