Headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, Borsheims has a strict policy of honesty and integrity, the company strives to make sure that customers understand exactly what they are purchasing. The sparkling treasures sold by Borsheims are expected to last a lifetime.
In addition to providing excellent conflict-free diamonds for its engagement and special occasion jewelry, Borsheims offers a range of watches, bracelets, earrings, rings, lockets, pins, and other jewelry. The company also has the ability to design a piece as unique as the customer, and offers a variety of other gifts including flatware, glassware, dishes, and writing instruments.
Borsheim’s was founded in 1870 in Omaha, Nebraska. When the company was first chartered, it was called Brown & Borsheim’s Jewelry. In addition to offering the traditional jewelry store experience, the company operated a store in Council Bluffs which specialized in watches designed for Union Pacific conductors who needed highly-accurate watches to keep “railroad time.”
In 1947, the company was purchased by Louis Friedman who ran the company with his son Ike. However, despite the management change the name Borsheims was continued. The Friedman family fostered the company policy of keeping an extensive inventory and providing exceptional customer service—a company culture which still exists at Borsheims today.
The majority stake in the company was purchased by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway in 1989, and he uttered the famous line, “If you don’t know jewelry, know the jeweler.”
Since Buffett’s purchase, Borsheims has continued to expand and grow, becoming well-known throughout the world. It serves an international clientele from six continents and offers services in all 50 states. The company boasts a retail space of more than 62,000 square feet in which it offers not only traditional jewelry store services and products, but also a line of gifts designed for newlyweds and other special events.
