Brief History

Berkshire Hathaway has a long history with newspapers. In fact, Sun Newspapers, a group of Omaha weeklies, was one of the first companies that Buffett bought when he began diversifying Berkshire Hathaway in the late 1960s. By the time that BH Media group was founded, Buffett owned several dozen newspapers across Nebraska and Iowa.

Then in 2012, the same year that BH Media Group was founded, the company purchased Media General, and acquired 63 additional papers as part of the transaction. The company’s presence exploded and the steady acquisition of papers to be added to the company continues to grow. In 2014, the company got its first television station, WPLG in Miami.

In order to help with the immense printing demands, BH Media Group created the BH Media Publishing Solutions, which provides printing to not only the BH Media Group publications, but around 100 other daily and weekly titles. It owns offices in five different states.

Although the newspaper business has slowed somewhat, BH Media Group is still going strong and offers daily, weekly, and hourly news updates to the community, as well as all manner of printing and digital solutions.
