The Berkshire Hathaway Annual meeting is unlike any investor meeting in the world. The event that takes place once a year in Omaha is visiting by thousands of investors around the world and is more like a technology expo than a shareholders meeting. The 2017 Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting had much more than good news about the companies stellar earnings. There was a surprise visit from Warren Buffett’s best friend Bill Gates, and the two even partook in a game of bridge, which happens to be Warren Buffett’s favorite game.
The 2017 Shareholder conference was packed with good news about Berkshire Hathaway, the company is doing better then ever in terms of their financial state and the war chest that the company has at its disposal. The company never ceases to amaze its shareholders, with Warren Buffett saying this year they will be looking to make a new acquisition. The Berkshire Hathaway war chest is up to $119 billion, and Warren Buffett has been making small acquisitions over the years. He told shareholders that Berkshire Hathaway will be looking for another company to purchase shortly, although he didn’t state exactly what industry the company will be in.
Berkshire Hathaway has also been doing excellent in the electric car market, with their shares in BYD growing by %50 on news that China is working on getting all fossil fuel vehicles off of their roads in the next twenty years. Warren Buffett has expressed interest in getting more invested in the alternative energy business. The electric car market is on an explosion and Berkshire Hathaway stands to be the leader of the pack, especially as Tesla is hammered with lawsuits over vehicle fires. The Berkshire Hathaway 2017 Annual Shareholder meeting was an excellent source of information showcasing the companies strong past and present.
