Warren Buffett, the Oracle of Omaha, is undoubtedly the world’s greatest investor. And, while there are plenty of resources for learning more about his investing mindset and strategies (including this blog!) for a more in-depth view, a book is the better way to go.
However, if you were to simply type in “Warren Buffett books” to Google, you’d come up with at least two dozen different books claiming to give all of the information on the world’s foremost investor. While you could read all of them, there’s bound to be quite a bit of overlap. So, to try and help narrow things down a bit, here are five books that no Warren Buffett fan should miss:
The Snowball: Warren Buffett and the Business of Life
by Alice Schroeder
This definitive biography of Buffett is the only one that was written with his direct assistance and help. Writer Alice Schroeder followed Buffett around for several months to write the book. It features information about Buffett himself and his mindset more than just investment facts.
The Essays of Warren Buffett
by Warren Buffett and Lawrence Cunningham
This must-read book features the Berkshire Hathaway shareholder letters from 1966 to 2015. Although Buffett is listed as the first author, he technically didn’t write the book–instead, it was organized and edited by Lawrence Cunningham from letters and other information written by Buffett. This is probably the closest you’ll ever get to reading a book penned by Buffett, and it features plenty of investment advice over the years.
Carol Loomis has known Buffett since before he became the “Oracle of Omaha” and this book chronicles the articles and stories that track his accomplishments from a virtually unknown hedge fund manager to the world’s foremost investor. The book features Buffett’s thoughts, actions, and opinions on everything from investing to parenting and even features some articles written by Buffett himself.
The Warren Buffett CEO
by Robert P. Miles
Although the primary thing that Buffett is known for is his investing genius, in reality he is also a fantastic manager. This book explores his often-overlooked managerial styles and thoughts and gives insight into the managerial practices of Berkshire Hathaway. This is a one-of-a-kind peek into a different side of Buffett.
The Warren Buffett Way
by Robert G. Hagstrom
This book is an in-depth look into the investment strategies, rules of thumb, and thought processes that made Warren Buffett a billionaire. There are case studies and plenty of real life investment examples drawing on information from the Oracle of Omaha and his mentors. This book is the definitive choice for anyone looking to better understand Buffett’s investment decisions.
