Warren Buffett Recommends Teaching Kids About Investing With Cartoons

As far as busy businessmen are concerned, Warren Buffett is definitely one of the busiest. As a matter of fact, he is actually the third richest person in the world as of this time. He recently knocked off Amancio Ortega and took the title.

By the end of trading on Monday, Warren Buffett was worth $54.9 billion. As I’m sure you can imagine, his business responsibilities are quite extensive, and Berkshire Hathaway eats up a lot of his time. He’s also an active philanthropist, and he always seems to be in the middle of a new business deal as of late.

You might believe that “the father of value investing” could never find the time to teach the young ones the proper way to handle money. But he has surprised everyone and came up with an excellent way to do just that.

He’s even come up with an excellent way to immortalize his financial strategy teachings. He partnered up with Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment and A Squared Entertainment and they put together an animated character representing Warren Buffett.

Yes, you read that correctly. The Oracle of Omaha, with his sage voice and recognizable image, is now part of a new animated series called Secret Millionaires Club Volume One. This program will teach kids how to invest and enjoy the activity. They will also learn valuable money management lessons in a fun and easy-going way when viewing this animated series.

Secret Millionaires Club Volume One, the brand-new series, recently made its debut on DVD this past March 19. The story is about four friends named Lisa, Jones, Radley and Elena. During the story, the children learn that their school no longer has funding for field trips, music and other activities that they really enjoy. That’s when they realize they need financial advice. Who else would you turn to in this situation? They immediately contact Warren Buffett, and he provides them with plenty of guidance and financial acumen.

Now that the children have Warren Buffett as a business mentor, the kids are capable of applying the basic knowledge provided by Mr. Buffett and they use it during their daily adventures. In the end, they learn that hard work is important, and the best investment to make of all is the investment in you.

Even though Warren Buffett has an incredibly busy schedule, he took some time away from it to chat via email in regards to teaching the kids about investing. Some of the topics touched upon are:

“How to we approach teaching kids about smart money handling, investments and how can we make it fun in the process? Can you really make a game out of teaching kids about investing?”

Venables: At what age should we speak with our kids about being smart with money and investing?

Buffett: It’s never too early to help kids understand about money. Whether it’s understanding the cost of the new toy they want, or the value of saving money. Kids are exposed to money matters from a very young age, so why not help them understand it and develop healthy habits early on?

Venables: Shouldn’t we be teaching “money matters” as a course in high schools around the nation, as using money wisely affects the future of all children?!

Buffett: The lessons of Secret Millionaire Club are ones that can help anyone at any age. Things like: “The best investment you can make is an investment in yourself.” “The more you learn, the more you’ll earn.” “Find something you like to do, and you’ll never work a day in your life.” “Great partnerships will make any job easier.”

Venables: What is your favorite game or activity that kids can do to learn about making smart investment decisions?

Buffett: We had a lot of fun creating this series. But it has been even more fun watching kids interact with and learn from the series. Every year we do a contest called the “Learn and Earn” competition. Thousands of kids from across the country use what they’ve learned from Secret Millionaire Club to develop their own business ideas. The finalists come to see me in Omaha and present their business plans, and it’s pretty amazing what these kids come up with. It not only shows that kids understand money matters at a young age, but they have some pretty terrific business ideas of their own!

Secret Millionaires Club Volume One, the brand-new animated series, has recently debuted on DVD on March 19 of 2013. You should watch it with your children. You never know… you might learn something yourself. And as Warren Buffett often says, “the more you learn, the more you’ll earn!”
